Philosophy of Education

Education in the elementary school provides the foundation for all academic learning that will follow. It is our hope that every child who enters Sojourn Academy will benefit from the high expectations for learning established in our curriculum and from the support provided by our instructional staff.

Reading, Mathematics, and Language Arts are our core curriculum; they are the basis on which we teach. Science, Social Studies, and Health are also stressed. Physical Education develops the body. Cultural arts such as Art, Music, and Library/Literature appreciation enrich our students’ lives.

Although Sojourn Academy is not a bilingual school, we endeavor to instill an appreciation fro Latin culture and a proficiency in the Spanish language.  We accomplish this through both formal class and informal settings.

Socialization activities are provided through group projects, recess, free time, and playground exercises. Fairness is encouraged at all times.

We promote a healthy, positive self-discipline in our Discipline Plan.

We will endeavor to develop each child’s natural abilities and make our school a positive Christian experience for each child.

Bible and Worship

In order to meet the purposes of training students to be valuable for the kingdom of God, Scriptural education is incorporated into daily and/or weekly class work.  For the elementary grades, the teachers lead a joint time of worship and Bible lesson two to three times a week.

In middle school and high school, students attend Bible classes two to three times a week and join together for a time of worship and teaching in weekly chapel.

Each student should have a copy of the Bible for school.
